National Saturday Club: Summer Exhibition 2018

The Summer exhibition is taking place at Somerset House – 9 to 17th June 2018

The National Saturday Club is an incredible project where 13-16 years have the opportunity to experience and try out different artistic practices and thinking in a fun way. There were  71 clubs with over 1500 members.

I was able to be involved in this project by teaching at Reading College – Activate Learning. I worked with an extraordinary group of young individuals, some of my group were only 12 years of age. Printmaking focused primarily with my teaching; mono-printing, lino-printing, including collage, text, making zig-zag books and finally making a large collaborative installation piece 2.4 metres x 2.4 metres.

This has been an amazing few months, challenging, but rewarding  and I was thrilled to meet one of the trustees Edmund de Waal at the Private View who complimented our installation.

24 Pairs of Eyes Who am I?

A collaboration of young artists aged 13-16 years as part of National Saturday Art & Design Club at Reading College: Louise Anderson, Printmaker, Artist and Factilator has worked with the group to create the piece for the final project.  Identity, who am I?  The same but different. For this project, the young people have looked at who they are and what identity means to them. Over the previous weeks they have developed their printmaking skills. This project is using linocut printmaking and the image will primarily be will be the eyes and the eyebrows (mainly the eyes). The linocut/images will be printed in different colours and layered on top of each other – to represent that we are all multi-layered and facetted. The linocuts will be printed on 4 large pieces of lining paper. There will also be pieces of yellow tissue paper placed across the paper. Yellow: being the colour of peace.  The second layer, which will hang in front of the first , will be a sheer fabric (which is a really thin and see through). Words will be hand sewn onto this layer, describing the personality. The overall aim of this project has been to learn new skills, have fun, work collobratively in a team and develop a piece of art work that represents the 23 young people, the same but different…
