ENGAGE! with Art at South Hill Park

Ministry of Work’s ‘Butterfly Type’ Plan

In the 1950s SHP was owned by the BBC. Plans were drawn for the building to function as the European Services section. Buildings were to be built to minimum austerity standards following the ‘Butterfly type’ plan. Materials from the BBC Written Archive were used to create cyanotype butterfly prints with copper foil; referencing the ‘Silver Studded Blue Butterfly’ a rare visitor to South Hill Park.

In addition a workshop was held outdoors to create Willow and Tissue Butterflies to create an outdoor installation by adults and children on the Yew Arch.

With thanks to the BBC Written Archives for all their help and support
